About me
The colourfoul compositions of Dutch versatile musician Monique Krüs encompass opera, music theatre, lieder, chambermusic, works for choir, music for media.
As a soprano she loves to sing contemporary music as well as the traditional repertoire. A large part of her work contains educational elements. TRAINING Monique Krüs studied psychology at the University of Utrecht, combining a preparatory year of classical guitar studies at the Conservatoire of Utrecht. At the same time she had her own jazztrio and wrote and produced the title song of the first movie of Oscar-winner Mike van Diem. During her psychology study she auditioned for solo voice at the Utrecht Conservatoire, where she discovered her affection for opera and new music. She finished her vocal studies with one year opera class at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. As a composer she is completely self-taught. With conductors Vincent de Kort and the late Jan Stulen she studied conducting. SOPRANO / VOCAL COACH / CONDUCTOR For three years she was engaged at the Operahouse in Essen (G). As a guest on an international stage she worked with conductors like Reinbert de Leeuw, Markus Stenz, Peter Eötvös and Michael Schönwandt, a.o. at the Dutch National Opera in 'Hier' by Guus Janssen, with the virtuoso 'Cantata della fiaba estrema' by Henze and in the Matinee in the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam as Empress CiXi, the leadrole in the opera 'Hotel de Pekin' by Willem Jeths. As a vocal coach she works both one-on-one and in workshops and masterclasses, with individuals as well as ensembles and choirs. 2013 she conducted her own music for the first time in the chamber opera 'The Tsar'. 2019 she conducted Anne & Zef at the International opera Festival Wiesbaden with members of the Wiesbaden Staatstheater. April 2022 she conducted Anne & Zef in The Hague with the Residentie Orkest. |

COMPOSITIONS
Monique writes and produces music for a wide variety of projects, where her vast experience as a singer proves to be very valuable. At first mainly for television, but since 2007, when her first opera God's Videotheque saw its premiere, her compositional focus has shifted more towards live-music of which opera and vocal music form the biggest part. ORGANISER, BOARDMEMBER Monique Krüs is co-founder of Opera Spanga (NL) and has been artistic director of the Oudegracht Opera Concert in Utrecht for 10 years. She takes part in boards of examiners at the Amsterdam/Tilburg Conservatoires on a regular basis. She was a member of the BUMA Raad van Toezicht and board member of Nieuw Geneco, the Dutch professional association of composers. She has been a member of the jury of the Alba Rosa Vietor Composition Competition. |
