MONIQUE KRÜS


Dramatic coloratura soprano

After her study solo voice in Utrecht and at the Mozarteum Salzburg, Monique Krüs was engaged at the Operahouse in Essen (G) for three years. 

As a guest on an international stage she performed lead roles in e.g. Traviata, Entführung aus dem Serail and Rigoletto. She worked with conductors like Reinbert de Leeuw, Markus Stenz, Peter Eötvös and Michael Schönwandt, a.o. at the Dutch National Opera in 'Hier' by Guus Janssen, with the virtuoso 'Cantata della fiaba estrema' by Henze and in the Matinee in the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam as Empress CiXi, the leadrole in the opera 'Hotel de Pekin' by Willem Jeths.


As a vocal coach she works both one-on-one and in workshops and masterclasses, with individuals as well as ensembles and choirs.

From conductors Kenneth Montgomery and Jan Stulen she received conducting lessons. Summer 2013 she conducted her own music for the first time in the chamber opera The Tsar, his wife, her lover and his head. Next she conducted her Apenootje with the Rotterdam Philharmonic, Corto Maltese in Teatru Manoel, Valletta/Malta, Anne & Zef at the International Opera Festival in Wiesbaden in 2019. 

April 2022  she conducted Anne & Zef in Den Haag (NL) with the Residentie Orkest in Amare Den Haag.

Monique Krüs is co-founder of Opera Spanga (NL) and has been artistic director of the Oudegracht Opera Concert in Utrecht for 10 years. She takes part in boards of examiners at the Amsterdam/Tilburg Conservatoires on a regular basis.  

She has been a member of the BUMASTEMRA Supervisory board, of the jury of the Alba Rosa Vietor Composition Competition and was vice president of Nieuw Geneco, the Dutch professional association of composers.
